The Coroner is a Crown Appointment and is not employed by the Government. The position of Coroner is a “holder of office” this means that although the Coroner receives a retainer from the Government, he is not an employee.

This means that any person dealing with the Coroner’s office can be assured that they are not dealing with a government department and all debts are dealt with on a fair and equitable basis unless the law dictates otherwise.
